On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you'll be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm). This afternoon, visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Later, travel around the base of Uluru in comfort as your Driver Guide provides commentary about the numerous sacred sites and features to be found at Uluru. Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight. Make your way to the viewing platform to see many kilometres into the distance, providing an ideal photo opportunity. Later, travel to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta and continue to the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through it follows the natural creek bed between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. Later, travel through the desert scenery to Alice Springs.

Enjoy a free day in Alice Springs. Why not visit Alice Springs Desert Park, home to plants and wildlife native to the area? You can really experience the beauty and diversity of this incredible landscape. The Arrernte people, traditional owners of the park, are also on hand to share their local wisdom and knowledge (own expense). Late this afternoon, make your own way to Alice Springs Railway Station to board The Ghan. Enjoy a drink in the Outback Explorer Lounge followed by dinner in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant before your overnight journey to the Top End.

Welcome to Katherine. Enjoy breakfast before leaving the train for a day of cultural delights, where endless options await. A late lunch awaits back on board. Then kick back and savour the last few hours of this epic journey. Roll into Darwin Train Station at 5.30pm then ease back into ‘life on the land’. Make your own way to your hotel, and later perhaps explore the harbour, the bars and restaurants of this laid-back tropical city.

Travel across the Adelaide River and Marrakai Plains and deep into Kakadu National Park. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre and view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Join your local guide for a cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned. After a lunch stop, visit Nourlangie, where your guide will lead a walk to view ancient Aboriginal rock art.

This morning, join your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr, where you’ll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, believed to be 20,000 years old, to the lookout for a view over the surrounding wetlands. Join the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture, including local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you can go ashore in Arnhem Land.
